Forestry Project
In the 4-H Forestry projects, you will learn:
- about ecological systems;
- about biological principles of living organisms;
- about the best practices for environmental stewardship and conservation of natural resources; and
- skills such as decision-making, getting along with others, self-responsibility, planning and organizing, and improving your knowledge of general science and technology.

FORESTRY - Level 1 (Ages 8-10)
- Follow the Path explores different types of trees and tree parts, characteristics of different forests, what forests need to grow and thrive and the different products people get from trees and forests. Available through National 4-H Council.
- Adopt a Tree teaches members about trees by having them locate and "adopt" a nearby tree, track changes to it over time, do bark and leaf rubbings, and search for visiting wildlife. Youngsters are also introduced to three common and special Florida trees: Cabbage Palm, Live Oak, and Longleaf Pine. In EDIS this publication is DLN FR 121.
FORESTRY - Level 2 (Ages 11-13)
- Reach for the Canopy teaches about the inner-workings of trees, explore forest change, learn about forest health concerns and discover the health benefits trees have on people. Available through National 4-H Council.
- Trees and Me teaches members about the interesting world of trees including how trees grow, strategies for identifying trees, the dominate species in 8 forest ecosystems across Florida, as well as the benefits and values of trees. In EDIS this publication is DLN FR 122.
- Forest Record Book teaches members about forest appreciation, tree identification, wood identification, tree planting, and the many uses of forest land. In EDIS this publication is DLN 4H 022.
FORESTRY - Level 3 (Ages 14-18)
- Explore the Deep Woods teaches members how to examine and distinguish between different types of trees, look at forests on a global scale, and to learn to care for trees and think about how to conserve forests. Available through National 4-H Council.
- Florida's Fabulous Forests teaches members about ten different kinds of forests in Florida: 8 natural ecosystems, the urban forest, and pine plantations. They also learn about forest management, forest systems (wildlife, water, and soil), and issues in forest management such as wildfire and prescribed fire, forest insect and diseases, and invasive exotic plants. Youth who enjoy identifying forest plants may wish to compete in the annual 4-H Forest Ecology Contest. See www.sfrc.ufl.edu/4h for additional information. In EDIS this publication is DLN FR 123.

- Journey into Agroforestry takes members on an exploration of some land management decisions and forestry environments within their community and surrounding areas. In EDIS this publication is DLN 4H 232.
